The Sacred Stone
The Sacred Stone
“I have a calling to see the tumbled fort,” Father Theodore spoke for the first time. “It came to me when I was praying.”
“A calling?” Thane Cenric repeated.
“Aye.” The priest clasped his hands in front of him. “I must journey to the fort. There is something to be found there. Perchance the fallen walls have unearthed something the saints wish me to discover.”
“What? What could it be?” Cenric’s eyes shone.
“It is not for me to question, but to discover the answer for myself,” the priest replied.
On the hillside overlooking Romney Marsh an abandoned Roman fort has fallen, and a holy stone revealed. The Thane of Aldington and his priest are determined to secure this prize for themselves. As Thane Cenric blindly follows his own whims and desires, the people of his village suffer for decisions made, and must find their own strength to take them through troubled times.
This sequel to The Pendant Cross features Aldington, Lympne and Lyminge in Anglo-Saxon times.
